Wicked: Part One A John M. is an upcoming American musical fantasy film directed by Chu and written by Winnie Holzman. It is the first part of a two-part adaptation of the stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire.
Wicked film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in supporting roles, along with Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode (her film debut), Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Kyla Settle, and Peter Dinklage. The story is set in the Land of Oz, mostly before Dorothy arrives from Kansas. It follows the green-skinned Elphaba and her journey to become the Wicked Witch of the West. He also explores his friendship and eventual rivalry with a classmate who becomes Glinda the Good.
Universal Pictures announced the movie in 2012 with Mark Platt as producer. After a long development period and several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, John M. Chu was hired to direct, and Erivo and Grande were cast in 2021. Filming began in England in December 2022, stopping in July 2023. The SAG-AFTRA strike, and then resumed, ended in January 2024.
Wicked movie is slated to release in the United States on November 27, 2024. The second part, Wicked: Part Two, is scheduled for release on November 26, 2025.

Wicked Movie Review and Storyline
“Wicked Little Letters” is a new film directed by Thea Sharrock from a screenplay by Jonny Sweet. It is based on a strange but true story from 1918–1920 that attracted much attention in England. The story follows an Irish woman named Rose Gooding, who has a young daughter, who comes to live in the seaside town of Littlehampton. She befriends her neighbor Edith Swann, a middle-aged woman who lives with her strict parents. Soon, Edith begins receiving anonymous, nasty letters. She blames Rose for sending them. Since Rose is Irish and her husband is missing, the town immediately believes Edith. Rose had to go to jail several times. However, a female police officer in Littlehampton begins her own investigation and suspects Rose is guilty. Ultimately, Rose was acquitted of all charges. This real-life scam is full of gossip and absurdity.
Olivia Colman plays Edith, who is controlled by her parents (Timothy Spall and Gemma Jones). He is a very devout Christian. When Edith upsets her father, she has to write Bible verses over and over again. Everything changes when Rose (played by Jessie Buckley) moves in next door. Rose’s husband died in the recent war, and she now lives with her black boyfriend (Malachi Kirby) and young daughter (Alisha Weir). Rose is bold and shameless, swearing, drinking in pubs, and having vigorous sex. The film reflects the anti-Irish sentiments of the time, just after the Easter Rebellion. Rose fits both good and bad Irish stereotypes, but people tend to focus on the bad. Edith is surprised by Rose but also excited by her independence.
The film begins with Edith accusing Rose, and we learn the backstory through a police interview. The police are shown to be mostly floundering, except for Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan), the young officer who works at the front desk. Gladys, Sussex’s first female police officer, and a real person wants to do a good job but is treated poorly. She soon realizes that something is wrong with the case against Rose. Rose insists that she is innocent, and Gladys begins to believe her.
The first half of the film tells the story at a brisk pace and keeps it interesting, even if the police interview setup is a bit clichéd. The tone is light and whimsical but also heart-touching. You like Rose and feel sorry for Edith, who is stuck with her strict parents. The second half, where Gladys investigates after being fired for insubordination, is where the film really shines. Gladys tries to prove Rose’s innocence and catch the real culprit using creative and covert methods. “Wicked Little Letters” is a fun British mystery with a lot of humor, featuring scenes of people sneaking around and spying on mailboxes.
