Ryan is an upcoming Tamil language action thriller written and directed by Dhanush in his second directorial project. Produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, the film stars Dhanush in the lead role, with S.J. Notable actors include Surya, Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, Sandeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and Saravan.
The movie was first announced in January 2023 with the working title D50, marking Dhanush’s 50th film as the lead actor. The official title was announced in February 2024. Filming began in July 2023, mainly in Chennai and Karaikudi, and was completed in mid-December. A.R. Rahman composed the music, Om Prakash handled the cinematography and Prasanna GK handled the editing.
Originally scheduled to release on June 13, 2024, Ryan was postponed for unknown reasons. It is now set to release in theaters worldwide on July 26, 2024, celebrating Dhanush’s birthday week.

Dhanush is gearing up for his second film as a director, titled Ryan. He is also playing the lead role in this film. This Tamil action drama will release worldwide on July 26. Initially, Ryan was supposed to be about gangsters. But now reports say that Dhanush’s character is a police informer. The mystery will unfold after a fight between the restaurant owner Dhanush, his brothers and other gangs.
The story is about Dhanush’s character who goes to a dangerous area, runs a restaurant and discovers hidden secrets.
The makers of the film held a grand audio launch event in Chennai with all the cast and crew. The latest news is that Ryan has passed its censorship and received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC.
On July 9, Dhanush shared a special poster to share the good news with his fans. The film received an ‘A’ rating two weeks before release, with no cuts and a runtime of around two hours and 25 minutes. Here is the poster:
