Ghuspaithiya: A missed opportunity

A Look at Privacy Invasion

Intruder tries to highlight how privacy invasion and stalking are big problems in our digital world. The film follows Ravi Rana (Vineet Kumar Singh), a dedicated police officer who secretly surveils powerful people to uncover their illegal activities. While dealing with the dark side of humanity through these intercepted calls, Ravi’s life takes a turn when his wife, Abha (Urvashi Rautela), who is obsessed with social media, becomes a victim of cyber stalking. The stalker, Anshuman (Akshay Oberoi), is a tech-savvy software engineer who targets unsuspecting women.

A Thriller That Misses The Mark

Writer-director Susie Ganesan aims to create a complex thriller, which shows the irony of a person who invades the privacy of others while his own family faces the same problem. The idea is interesting, but the film doesn’t quite deliver. The story involves a tense game between a tough cop and a clever cyberstalker, but the execution falls short due to a convoluted screenplay with too many subplots. Ravi tries to catch Anshuman while also being watched by the team exposing his own actions. His boss, IG Santosh Tyagi (Govind Namdev), uses Ravi to his advantage. These elements, to add suspense, actually interrupt the story. Additionally, Ravi’s use of physical violence against Anshuman becomes predictable and reduces tension.

Disappointing Ending

The film’s ending is particularly weak, with Ravi’s plan to stop Anshuman feeling forced and not well-developed. A more thoughtful ending would have made the film better.

Vineet Kumar Singh gives a strong performance as a man torn between his job and personal conflict. Akshay Oberoi is convincing as the menacing stalker. Urvashi Rautela does a decent job staying within the confines of her role.

Even with a good idea and a talented cast, Ghaspathiya doesn’t reach its full potential. A more focused script and better direction could have made it a compelling thriller. Instead, it feels like a missed opportunity.
