Atlas is a 2024 American science fiction action movie starring Jennifer Lopez as a top counter-terrorism specialist. At first, she doesn’t trust Artificial Intelligence (AI) at all. But after a mission to capture a dangerous rogue robot goes wrong, she realizes that AI may be her only chance to fix things. The film is directed by Brad Peyton and written by Leo Sardarian and Aaron Eli Collette. Other stars of the film include Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong.
The film was produced by ASAP Entertainment, Safehouse Pictures, New Yorkan Productions and Berlanti-Shatter Films. It was released on May 24, 2024 on Netflix. Although critics did not like it, the film did very well on Netflix. It entered the platform’s top 10 list in 93 countries and was the number one movie in 71 countries.
In the story, Jennifer Lopez’s character has to deal with her mistrust of AI while facing a powerful rogue robot. As he works to stop the robot, he begins to see that the AI might not be all bad. Simu Liu plays an important role that helps develop the story, and Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong also give strong performances.
The movie’s success on Netflix shows that even though critics didn’t like it, audiences around the world did. The film quickly became a hit, reaching number one on Netflix’s list of most popular English movies with 28.2 million views, equal to 56.3. . . million hours watched during the week of May 20-26. It was shown in 93 countries on Netflix’s top 10 list and was the top film in 71 countries.
As of June 5, 2024, Atlas had accumulated 60 million views worldwide, totaling 119.4 million viewing hours. This made Jennifer Lopez’s fourth film to top the streaming charts in two years, following Shotgun Wedding (2022), The Mother (2023), and This Is Me… Now: A Love. Story (2024). Atlas also became the second most watched Jennifer Lopez film on Netflix. Netflix reported that 80% of viewers who started watching Atlas expressed how much they enjoyed it.
