Plot Overview
‘Minimini’ begins with Pari Mukhilaan played by Gaurav Kalai. He is a sports star in his school, winning many medals. This is why his teachers don’t mind that he is not good at studies. Then comes Sabari Karthikeyan, played by Praveen Kishore, who excels in chess, art and studies. At first, Pari despises Sabari, but they gradually develop a complicated friendship. A sad incident soon depresses Sabari.
Meanwhile, we see Esther Anil’s character, Praveena, recovering from a heart transplant. The film shows how the lives of Pari, Sabri and Praveena are intertwined.

Review
Halita Shamim’s films are usually very realistic, focusing on everyday people and their stories, such as ‘Poorsam PP’, ‘Sillu Karupatti’ and ‘Ayale’. However, the ‘Mini’ is different. It doesn’t connect well with the audience right from the start. The scenes featuring Pari are disjointed and he comes off as a bully without facing any consequences.
The story doesn’t progress much in the first half, focusing more on the characters than on their journey. In the second part, Sabri and Praveena travel to the Himalayas, finding themselves. He does not know Sabari Praveena despite being a classmate. Their journey is linked by a fairy, but they don’t open up to each other, which slows down the story. The dialogues are very philosophical and sound like advice from spiritual books.
Character and Plot Issues
‘Minmini’ focuses only on the main characters, omitting important details about their backgrounds. We don’t know much about Sabri and Praveena’s parents or how they allowed them to travel alone. Sabrina is shown to be depressed over the years, but we don’t see if her parents try to help. Praveena, despite her major surgery, travels alone at altitude, which seems unreal. These issues make the movie less satisfying.

Performance and Technical Aspects
Despite its problems, ‘Minmini’ has strong performances by Praveen Kishore, Gaurav Kalai and Esther Anil, who range from their school days to their twenties. This raises the question of whether different actors would have had the same effect for their adult versions.
A.R. Rehman’s daughter Khatija Rehman makes her grand debut as a musician. Her background music is subtle and fits the story well. Cinematographer Manoj Paramahans, who also produced the film, captures the beauty of the Himalayan mountains that will make you want to visit.
While ‘Minmini’ has strong acting and technical work, its story and character development falls short, making it an ambitious but flawed film.
