Shakeela Release Date
The film was released on December 25, 2020 (Christmas) in five languages: Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Its box office earnings were damaged by piracy as the HD version with subtitles was leaked online. The leak was traced to someone in the Middle East.

Shakeela Movie Review
Almost ten years after Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture, here comes another film about the actress known for her bold roles.
Shakeela Richa Chadha is in the same role as Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture. But director Indrajit Lankesh Luthria has not brought the same level of entertainment. The film looks very familiar.
Shakeela tells a similar story of a woman rising to fame despite the presence of a top male star (Naseeruddin Shah in The Dirty Picture, Pankaj Tripathi here). Even though the film tackles bold themes, it lacks the compelling storytelling of The Dirty Picture.
The childhood scenes in Shakeela are interesting and remind you of Ramya Krishnan’s role in the 2019 web series Queen, when a girl turns to politics from acting. In Shakeela, the focus is on the adult film industry.
While the movie doesn’t have many standout or shocking moments, the scenes with Richa Chadha and Pankaj Tripathi are enjoyable because of their acting skills.
Shakeela is not a terrible film, but it is not something you would recommend to family and friends. It is better than Richa Chadha’s other film Kabar with the same subject.
