Drishyam is a 2013 Indian Malayalam-language crime thriller film produced by Jeetu Joseph. The film stars Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajon, Roshan Basheer and Neeraj Madhav. Its sequel, Drishyam 2 is slated for release in 2021, produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Ashirvad Cinemas. The story revolves around Georgekutty and his family, who become suspicious when Varun Prabhakar, son of police officer Geeta Prabhakar, goes missing.
Filming began in October 2013 in Thodupuzha. Sujith Vasudev handled the cinematography and Ayub Khan edited the film. Anil Johnson and Vinu Thomas composed the music.
Syedaram won several awards including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value and the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Malayalam. It was also screened at the 45th International Film Festival of India and the 8th Asian Film Festival.
Drashti has been remade in several languages. In 2014, it was remade in Kannada as Drishti and in Telugu as Drushyam. In 2015, it was remade in Tamil as Papanasam and in Hindi as Drishtim. A Sinhala version, Dharmayuddaya, was released in 2017, and a Mandarin Chinese remake, Sheep Without a Shepherd, was released in 2019. This made it the first Indian film to be remade in mainland China. An Indonesian version was announced in September 2021, becoming the first Indian film to be remade in Indonesia. In May 2023, a Korean remake was announced, becoming the first Indian film to be remade in Korean.
