Kung Fu Panda 4 is a 2024 animated martial arts comedy film by DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures. It is the fourth movie in the Kung Fu Panda series, following Kung Fu Panda 3 from 2016. Kung Fu Panda 4 film features the voices of Jack Black, Ian McShane, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, and Bryan Cranston from previous films. New cast members include Awkwafina, Ke Huy Quan, Ronny Chieng, Lori Tan Chinn, and Viola Davis. The plot follows Poe (Jack Black) as he searches for his successor. He teams up with a clever fox bandit named Zen (Aquafina) to stop an evil sorceress, Chameleon (Viola Davis), who wants to steal the kung fu powers of all the masters in China.
A fourth film was rumored before the release of the third in January 2016. As of August 2018, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who directed the previous films, said she was open to the idea. DreamWorks officially announced the fourth film in August 2022. As of April 2023, Mitchell, Ma Stine, and Huntley were confirmed as directors, co-directors, and producers. The main voice cast was confirmed in December 2023, and Awkwafina joined in May 2023. Hans Zimmer, who scored the previous films, returned as composer, working with Steve Mazzaro. Some additional production help came from Jellyfish Pictures.
Kung Fu Panda 4 premiered at The Grove in Los Angeles on March 3, 2024, and opened in theaters in the United States on March 8. The film received positive reviews and grossed over $537 million worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing film of 2024.
