Salaar Movie Review & Story

Deva, also known as Cutout, lives near a coal mine with her mother in Tinsukia, Assam. They have been moving frequently to avoid violence for seven years. Dev works as a mechanic and keeps to himself until Adhya comes seeking shelter from Obulamma. Meanwhile, in Khansar, King Mannar prepares his son Vardha to succeed him, and starts a rebellion. A foreign army is hired to spread chaos, prompting Radha to announce a temporary ceasefire. Vardha seeks help from her childhood friend Dev. Will God save Vardha, and will there be peace or bloodshed?

Directed by Prashant Neil, “Salar: Part 1 – Ceasefire,” Khansaar stars Prabhas Dev and Prithviraj Sukumaran as Vardharaja. The film combines drama, swagger and action. Neil makes Khansar as complex as the “Black Panther” with 101 tribes. Prabhas delivers impressive dialogue and action and makes Neil Deva larger than life. The screenplay builds Dev’s character slowly, setting the stage for the story.

Neil’s direction is influenced by international cinema with a dark aesthetic like “KGF”. The musical numbers are replaced by national anthems sung by children. The film explores power, loyalty and betrayal in politics. Prabhas portrays Dev with raw power and emotion, while Sukumaran adds depth to Vardha’s character. Haasan brings balance as Aadhya, but his screen time is limited. Jagapathi Babu shines as Raja Mannar with a strong supporting cast.

The cinematography captures the atmosphere of Khansar well and Ravi Basrur’s score adds to the mood of the film. Editing keeps the pace sharp. While the violence may not be for everyone, the film excels in drama and action with minimal comedy.
